Week 36-All over Bakersfield

Mon, Jun 28, 2021, 9:01 AM to me Crazy week up here in Delano! Had the chance to go on two exchanges and both were out of the area, so I spent all of Tuesday down in McFarland and then all of Wednesday in Wasco. On Tuesday I was with elder Robison, and we had a Lesson with their friend Alejandro, who speaks some wild spanish so elder Robison was excited to bring me along for that, he said he usually ends up teaching by himself but was excited to have someone that can speak Spanish with him! He told us his whole life story even though I had just barely met him, and long story short he is working so hard to come closer to God, learn more about the book of Mormon, and give his attention to the missionaries because we are working to give our time to God. He had such a pure desire to become better. And we got some El Haurache Loco Fish tacos, absolutely the best. Finished the night off getting a picture next to the store from the movie! Then Wednesday I headed down to Wasco with the zone leaders. We didn't get to teach any lessons, but we did have the youthactivity, life sized foozball, which was a ton of fun. Youth activities out here are way different than Colorado or Utah knows them to be - we usually have between 8-10 kids that show up out of all age groups young men and women. So when 6 missionaries show up, we get to participate and have fun. It was awesome. We also hit up a local fish taco spot down there. I was on a tour this week to find the best ones. So far Delano's El Haurache Loco is unbeatable. I finally got to come back in to my area to finish off the week. On saturday we had dinner with the morales family, and they just recentlyconverted, and moved from Mexico about 5 years ago. I was under the impression I couldn't turn down anything I was offered, so after I drank all the horchata she asked me if I wanted more water. Of course I said yes, and it turns out "water" is code for horchata. And that happened more than once. But no complaints, put Costa vida horchata to shame. This week I loved the story of Nephi asking his father where he needed to go to hunt, even though his father had complained against the Lord. Reading this I realized Nephi totally could've asked for himself! He was more grateful than his father at the time, and would go on to become the prophet, so surely he was righteous enough to receive his own inspiration. But he asked his father simply to build his father up. He put his ego aside, knowing he could do as good if not better, to invite his father to fulfill his responsibility. And in response, Lehi humbled himself, and grew from the experience. Inspires me to look for ways to trust in, and build up, those around me. Charity is about more than loving in the moment. It is to have a lasting impact! Thanks so much for reading! Have a great week! Elder Easton
